01/12/2012 - Press Release - UKVeolia donates Hi Vis Clothing to local Primary Schools
Veolia recently supported Brake's Road Safety Week campaign, which took place from 19th-25th November 2012.
This campaign is organised annually by Brake, an independent road safety charity and not only helps to raise valuable funds, it also raises awareness of the importance of driving at slower and safer speeds.
The theme for this year's Brake Road Safety Week was'Slower speeds = happy people' , calling on drivers to slow down to 20 mph around homes, schools and shops - a life saver that gives you a good chance of stopping in an emergency.
Being involved in this campaign meant Veolia was able to not only raise awareness to its employees but demonstrate its commitment to road safety in the local community.
In support of the campaign, the company ran a road safety quiz with the winner from each of the Veolia Offices in Stoke-on-Trent, Marlow and Birmingham nominating a local primary school of their choice to win high visibility garments for the children.
The vests, tabards and arm-bands were presented by Lyndsey Wicks, Veolia's UK Health & Safety Manager to St Peters C of E Primary School in Caverswall, Manor Farm Infant School in Hazlemere and Four Oaks Primary School in Birmingham in December.
Employee's also participated in a Bright Day on Thursday 22nd November, to raise funds for Brake and turned up to work wearing crazily bright clothes - raising a total of £165.00
Martin Howard, spokesperson at Brake, said: "Brake is extremely grateful to all of the organisations that have run Bright Days during 2012 and raised awareness about road safety. The money donated by Veolia will be crucial in funding our work with families bereaved by road crashes, supporting people during the worst time of their lives".
